“Wilson gave me confidence and built me as a person, but I’m not done yet.”

Megan Dennis

Megan Dennis wanted to find a college where she could play field hockey and bring her horse.  She found that at Wilson, where she became the captain of the IHSA hunt seat team and co-captain of the IDA dressage team.  Megan liked that the equestrian facility was right on campus.  At Wilson, she “learned so many cool things” through her participation in athletics, yearbook and student government.  Megan was also able to play basketball and pick up lacrosse.  She had a chance to travel to New Orleans for a conference and plans to go to Belize to study tropical ecology.

Wilson seems like a hometown to Megan.  She said that you get to know people and that the college is a close-knit community.  She learned about Korea through one of her roommates and made friends with students from many different states.

The feeling of community enabled her to develop personal relationships with her professors.  This made her want to achieve at a higher level.  Her senior research project looks at the effect of estrogen on various living organisms in waterways.  She appreciates the fact that at Wilson, students are able to formulate their own research topic.  Megan discovered her love for doing field research rather than only working in a lab.  She feels that her faculty are always behind her in whatever she does.

At Wilson, Megan developed a passion for learning how things work.  She believes that she “can now take on the world.”  She said that Wilson gave her confidence and built her as a person although, she exclaimed, “I’m not done yet!”
