Kayla Whitfield-Bradley ’10
“The faculty at Wilson truly cares about you; they’re very genuine.”

Alumna, Pre-Vet Club Founder, Future Veterinarian
Ever since she was a child, Kayla wanted to be a veterinarian. When she started looking for colleges, she focused on small colleges that offered pre-vet programs. She was drawn to Wilson because of the hands-on opportunities within the Concentration in Veterinary Biology in the Veterinary Medical Technology major. She fell in love with Wilson the first time she visited the campus.
Kayla values the relationships she developed with her classmates and professors. She sees them as her “Wilson family.” She appreciates the faculty who challenged and encouraged her. “The faculty at Wilson truly cares about you; they’re very genuine. Because they care about your personal interests and goals, that helps you get the most out of your education. Professors have high expectations for you; even though they push you very hard, when you come out on the other side you’re a better person for it.” She adds, “I really liked my professors!”
The process of applying to veterinary schools is difficult but Kayla put into practice the perseverance she learned as a student at Wilson. When she heard she had an interview at the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University, George Bates, DVM, Assistant Professor of VMT helped to prepare her for that interview. Kayla says that knowing she had his support was a big help.
She was involved in many clubs and activities at Wilson, including the Pre-Vet Club that she founded. Holding leadership positions on campus helped with her acceptance to veterinary school. “Having leadership positions gave me a higher degree of responsibility; through that I gained more confidence”, says Kayla.
She graduated from Wilson in May 2010, was married in June and moved to Ohio with her husband in July. She begins her studies at The College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University in September. Who else moved with them? Lena, the dog she fell in love with and adopted from Wilson’s Veterinary Medical Center.
